Regulatory Regime In India Intending Timeline for Approvals:
As per an MOFPI Official, FSSAI agrees on 90 days timeline for product approvals. As per an FnB News, the Ministry of Food Processing Industry (MOFPI) and Food Safety & Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) deliberated and agreed to institute timeline of 90 days to clear the applications received.
Further the MOFPI, FSSAI & Ministry of health discussed to consider approvals for products which have additives and ingredients that stand already approved. There are still some hitches on this issue. The official added that the issue of voluntary certification related to Q-mark could not take off for some reasons.
It was further stated that the ministry expects that the scheme of voluntary certification that was designed by the ministry through the Quality Council of India and shared with industry bodies and put on the ministry website never took off due to lack of interest on the part of industry.
